Uppsala, Sweden - Gamla Uppsala Church - Pope John Paul II altar

In 1989 Pope John Paul II visited Sweden and held an open-air mass at the royal Viking burial mounds in Gamla Uppsala. The mounds are near the church and although they are Pagan the "Old Uppsala Church" became the seat for the Archibishop in 1164, the first in Scandinavia.

The translated inscription says: "At this altar Pope John Paul II celebrated holy mass during his visit to Sweden on June 9, 1989."
