Westminster Abbey, London - North entrance
The north entrance of Westminster Abbey. Over the centuries many coronations, marriages and funerals have taken place here.The list of monarches and notable persons buried in this abbey is impressive.
A few of the monarchs buried here are; Edward the Confessor (1066), Henry III (1272), Edward I "Longshanks" (1307), Henry V (1422), Mary I (1558) and her half-sister Elizabeth I (1603) Mary and Elizabeth are even buried in the same tomb despite their hatred of each other in life.
A sampling of non-royalty include; Geoffrey Chaucer (1400), Sir Issac Newton (1727), Charles Dickens (1870) and Charles Darwin (1882). Though an admitted Agnostic, Darwin was given a Christian burial.
