Most small Wisconsin towns feature these visually distinct yet structurally aligned downtown buildings, as the cheapest way to build but able to show some individuality.
Narrow but deep lots would tend to build up around certain gathering spots (churches, railroads) leading to this common downtown look.
Wisconsin tends to be known for "Brick facades, modest ornamentation and cream city block" and of course food, beer, brats and hardware.
Being from California this style of building has long since been abandoned due to our earthquakes, so interesting to see.
