This commemorates the role of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam conflict, that of evacuating villagers from their hamlets into areas where the Republic of South Vietnam police could keep their eyes on them.

(Uc Dai Loi is Vietnamese for "from the South", in other words, Australian.)
