Number 102 was built in January, 1965 (the year I graduated from high school!) as Central of Georgia/Savannah and Atlanta 2713. It was rebuilt by the W&LE at its Brewster, Ohio, shop in December, 2000, and is now equipped with microprocessor controls and EMD 645 engine components. The trucks are the AAR style commonly found under ALCO and earlier GE locomotives; these trucks were typical of Southern Railway (and affiliates like Central of Georgia and Savannah and Atlanta) GP35 locomotives. The high short hood is also a Southern Rwy (and Norfolk and Western) option.

Number 305 is a GP40-3, and was built in November, 1971, as Denver and Rio Grande Western GP40 3087. The locomotive was sold to the Wheeling and Lake Erie by the Union Pacific, after it absorbed the Rio Grande. In February, 2008, 305 was rebuilt at Brewster and equipped with Q-tron electronic excitation control. The addition of microprocessor controls is what commonly causes a locomotive to be classified as a -3 variant, although the railroad refers to Number 102, also microprocessor equipped, as simply a GP35.
