Construction Ahead
Engine 16 is one of two locomotives that were chosen back around February of 2020 by the East Broad Top Foundation for restoration to operational service. For now, a lot of parts have been removed from the boiler and a grid pattern has been drawn all over the engine. This will aid in the ultrasonic scan that must be performed over the entire boiler to check for any problem areas in the metal. Without this important scan, a small crack or flaw in the metal could lead to a catastrophic accident and/or explosion of the boiler. I am among a TON of other railfans who are excitedly and anxiously awaiting this engine running and rumbling down the rails again.
