The Depression

The Mississippi River rose to approximately 21' 4" at Lock & Dam 15 in Davenport/Rock Island which is 6' 4" over flood stage. During this time the CPKC kept trains moving by raising more track, running through water over the rails, and most importantly keeping the depression under the Government Bridge clear of water. In this view we see the water being ejected back into the river channel while southbound train 374's DPU KCS 4771 actually dips below water level!
