R1536. Reedsmouth Junction. May,1964.

1964/05.R1536. Reedsmouth Junction in Northumberland was once the meeting place of the Border Counties Railway and the Wansbeck Railway. It was opened in 1861, but succumbed to the 1960s rash of rail closures 102 years later.

This view is looking north with the line to Kielder and Riccarton Junction going off to the left. The line on the right goes to Morpeth on the N.E.R. Newcastle - Edinburgh main line.

The picture was taken in May, 1964, six months after the lines were closed. The signal box still exists, however, converted to a private residence.
