RD5589 Taliesin & Merddin Emrys at Harbour Stn

2011/02/18.RD5589. Porthmadog Harbour Station is now the terminus of two railways following the opening of the new Welsh Highland Railway connection to the Ffestiniog Railway early in 2011. The inaugural through trains from Porthmadog to Caernarfon and vice versa were to take place on Saturday the 19th February, but press and test trains from the Porthmadog end were run the day before. The press train for ITN ran in the morning and the test train ran in the afternoon.

Because of the need to reverse direction once the train is out of the station and on The Cob, the locomotive/s start off at the back of the train which then, of course, becomes the front! Double Fairlie 0-4-4-0T MERDDIN EMRYS and Single Fairlie 0-4-4T TALIESIN wait to depart from Harbour Station but, not being a passenger train, it will depart from the sidings rather than the platform road.
