D21400. Search and Rescue.

D21400. 2 of 10. Worm's Head is an off shore island - but only at high tide. However, when the tide goes out there is a rocky causeway connecting it to the mainland, but care is needed when crossing to make sure that there is sufficient time to return before the tide comes in again. People often get stranded over there - and this includes the famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas!

On the occasion of my visit this tide was coming in and Worm's Head was once again an island. There are numerous warning notices about the danger of being cut off by the rising tide but, despite this, two people were over there and had to be rescued by the insure lifeboat! The local Coast Guard also turned out to handle things on the mainland.
