R1605. GWR 0-6-0PT 1658 at Whimsey Yard in the Forest of Dean.
R1605. In June, 1964, the Railway Enthusiasts' club of Farnborough ran a brakevan tour around the Forest of Dean using a couple of GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tanks. It was called 'The Severn Boar' and was so popular that the limited accommodation offered by the brakevans was soon fully booked and a repeat tour was run a couple of weeks later.
As I was unable to get on the first tour I chased it by car taking pictures and was then able to ride on the second tour - a case of getting the best of both worlds!
This is the second tour somewhere in the Forest of Dean behind 1658 - but I can't remember where. Does anybody recognize the location? If so I would be most grateful if there would get in touch and let me know.
It's Whimsey Yard; see TimC's comments below.
