R4590. Ex Class 1 at New Clydesdale. 8th September,1972.

R4590. A number of South African and Rhodesian Railways steam locomotives ended their days in industrial service following their withdrawal from main line service. This is an ex. South African Railways Class 1 4-8-0 having a further lease of life at the New Clydesdale Colliery south of Witbank in the Transvaal.

 

Built by North British and introduced in 1904, this was originally the 'B' class of the Natal Government Railways.
