Chris Jepsen says: This amazing photo was taken in Orange County, California. The photographer writes that the "hazy air is the result of lingering smoke from the devastating fires of November" 2008.

Chris Jepsen says: This enormous 1950s power plant, using antiquated technology, does so much to beautify the coastline and draw tourists to Huntington Beach. Dontcha want to look out the window of your resort hotel and see THIS staring back at you? (It's even better when the winds are blowing the plume TOWARD you.)

Chris Jepsen says: This shows the remnants of a missile launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, California. Gasses from the contrail turn to crystals in the upper atmosphere and reflect the already-set sun in amazing ways. This photo was taken in Tucson, Arizona. Beautiful!

Chris Jepsen says: An industrial park never looked so good! If there were a couple workmen walking home in the foreground, this might be a great California painting from the 1930s.

Chris Jepsen says: I've never seen a sky quite like this, but I can only think that BAD things are about to happen. This is one of the best nature photos I've ever seen on Flickr.

Chris Jepsen says: The clouds would be pretty interesting, even if they *didn't* work so well with the slip, dock, and boat, to create a strong sense of depth. But they do.

Chris Jepsen says: I've seen this sort of thing myself during wildfire season, and this is an excellent representation. The sky is red and smokey in one direction, while the big glass buildings reflect the remaining blue sky in the other.
