Macadamia Saplings
Seen at the Valhalla Organic Macadamia Farm in Guatemala. The owners of this farm have made it their mission to bring macadamia nut trees to Guatemala and Central America. They give out hundreds of saplings a year to communities across the region in areas suitable for their cultivation. Once established, a macadamia tree can produce nuts for up to 150 years providing a sustainable source for high-quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids. They provide several varieties of trees to avoid the problems with fungus like you find on the banana and coffee plantations that rely on one variety of plant.
