Mendenhall Glacier and Lake (Explored 9-30-22)
This is a view of Mendenhall Glacier where it enters Mendenhall Lake. This small glacier (about 13.6 miles long) is located just 12 miles from Juneau, Alaska, the state capital. The Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area is part of Tongass National Forest, the world's largest temperate rain forest which covers most of southeast Alaska.
Glacier ice is blue because the tremendous pressure compresses the ice crystals so that only blue light can escape.
