What is the Best Wireless Router for Online Gaming

Here are some guidelines on choosing the best gaming router for Xbox 360 Live.

 

1. Xbox 360 Live is compatible with all four types of 802.11 wireless connectivity standards, which include 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. Keep in mind, however, that you need to choose a router that also matches your Internet connection. 802.11a routers are for connections that use the 5GHz frequency, while 802.11b and 802.11g both use the 2.4GHz frequency. 802.11n routers, on the other hand, can support both frequencies. For purposes of online gaming and connecting to Xbox 360 Live, an 802.11n router is more advisable so you have up to 23 different channels to choose from.

 

2. Choose a simultaneous dual band router. Even though 802.11n dual band routers can use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, they cannot use both at the same time. If you wish to use both to dedicate one frequency to your Xbox 360 Live gaming and another frequency to other Internet usages, look for a router labeled as “simultaneous dual band”.

 

3. Choose a router based on the layout of the room you are playing Xbox Live 360 in. If, for some reason, you cannot buy an 802.11n router, you can either choose to use the 2.4GHz or the 5GHz frequencies. The 5GHz frequency offers up to 20 channels to choose from, but signals are easily compromised when there are a lot of walls and obstructions around. The 2.4GHz has only 3 channels that you can choose from, but you will get more guaranteed signal as this frequency isn’t easily affected by
