366 outtakes: Day 11 - I couldn't let today pass without sharing the Shoreham houseboats with you.

 

This eclectic collection of barges moored on the riverside opposite Shoreham town centre is legendary, and this is my absolute favourite. The top deck consists of two buses, a wild metal roof and delightful teardrop windows. It even has a bomb stuck in the mud!

 

When the tide is out, there are 75 yards of mud before you get to the water, so it isn't quite as idyllic a place to live as you might imagine ...

 

It was a tough call to leave this out of my 366, but my reasoning is that I can photograph the houseboats at any time. The image I chose was a moment of light, which, although perhaps not as interesting or esoteric, is closer to my photographic heart ...
