Eye Camp Of July 3rd, 2011
Sunday, JULY 03, 2011, at Bara Chowna Bazar, P.S. Shakhipur, Tangail, Bangladesh a Free Eye Camp was sponsored in memory of Salim Javed Baksh by Touching Souls International.
In a rainy day approximately 1200 patients attended the camp. They received eye check-up and among them overall 550 patients received medication. At the end of the daylong checkup finally 27 Males and 13 Females left in the afternoon for cataract surgery at Mymensingh BNSB Eye Hospital, Dhopakhola, Mymensingh. The patients was operated on Monday 4th July 2011, and returned to Bara Chowna Bazar on the following day Tuesday, 5th July 2011. All of these patients cataract surgery, boarding, transport & food expenses was covered 100% by the nonprofit, Touching Souls International. Besides after 6 weeks these patients are going to receive a post-operative check-up which will be also free of cost.
Some of the unique patients who attended the camp, that can be worthy of drawing attention is one 4 yr old boy with cataract from birth who was chosen for surgery. Another 9 yr old girl with cataract but due to hypertension was referred for medical treatment; after controlling her hypertension then she will undergo cataract surgery,
Of the elderlies, one male and two female already have one of their eye nonfunctional for previous medical complications. For them their only cataract affected eye was a blessing for them to continue to have a working eyesight after receiving a cataract surgery. These three one-eyed patients did get cataract surgery too.
It would be worthy to mention here that Touching Souls International NY USA for the last 18 years is sponsoring a series of philanthropic activities at different parts of the country. To mention some of them besides Eye camp, Cleft-lip project, Artificial limb project, Palliative care project at BSMMU. Touching Souls International also provides educational scholarships to school students. A good number of School also receive funding from them. Touching Souls International also sponsor self-reliant project for the poorest of the poor.
