Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. It is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness—whatever the diagnosis. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.

In Bangladesh, the priority of primary health care system is communicable diseases. But the incidence of non communicable and incurable diseases is on the rise. A rough statistics shows that this country is estimated to have more than one million patients with cancer at any point of time. So, it is ensured that Bangladesh is in acute need of a well organized Palliative Care Program on a National scale.
