IMAGE 2 OF 2

Week: 5

Activity: Camera Craft Creative Challenge - Week 6

Area: Challenge 2 - Portrait Effects

Intent: drawing inspiration from "Emmet Gowin Edith, Danville, Virginia 1963" and several other shadow-focused nature portraits on the internet, I wanted to play around with the shadows created by different plants in a forest. I found while exploring that the most interesting shadow from the plants available was from ferns. As of this, I brought my friend back the next day when the lighting was lower and harsher (to increase the sharpness of the shadows and image contrast) and took some images.

I made the consious decision to close the aperture slightly (from wide-open f/5.6 to f/8) to capture the foreground ferns as well as the subject whilst keeping the background blurred.

I feel that the shadows create an interesting composition that almost creates a connection between the subject and surrounding flora in the forest.

I can't decide between B&W or Full Colour... Please help!
