Freedom fighters

When the U.S. claimed this land (which belonged to Mexico at the time) as property of the US government, the State of New Mexico surrendered to U.S. soldiers without a shot being fired. However, some residents in nearby Mora and Taos took offense. They conducted gurilla warfare on US interests and then came and hid out in this valley. Later, Cavalry soldiers showed up with cannons and litterly flattened Mora with cannon fire. (The first U.S. city to suffer that fate)
