'THE TSARS ENGINE' - 'RENISHAW HALL AND GARDENS'
The Tsar's Engine.
By Ruston of Lincoln.
In 1914, the Tsar of Russia placed an order for a number of straw-burning engines to be delivered by Rustons of Lincoln.
With the outbreak of the Great War and the collapse of the Imperial Regime the engines were never dispatched.
In 1929 the late example of this type of engine left the Ruston Works for use on the Althorp estate.
During the Second World War the Renishaw Estate bought the engine to use in the sawmill.
