The Torre Asinelli in Sheffield

We've just got back from Bologna, it's a fascinating city with over 40km of porticos, and several ancient towers. In its heyday there were over 100 tall thin towers, making it like a Medieval Manhattan. There are around 20 left today, the tallest at 97m is the Torre Asinelli, built 900 years ago. For comparison the University of Sheffield Arts Tower is 78m tall. You can see the Arts Tower from our house, this is what the Torre Asinelli would look like if it was in Sheffield. I climbed the Torre Prendiparte, which is a mere 60m, but that was enough in the 30+ degree heat!
