American Civil War re-enactment
Taken using a crude long focus lens made from a magnifying glass and some drainpipe.
The single biconvex element has a focal length of approximately 400mm, the diameter is 100mm, giving an aperture of f4.
It was attached to a Nikon D70 using an extension tube and the plastic cup from an old thermos flask, over which a standard black plastic soil pipe was placed and wedged into position. The lens was pushed into another plumbing item, which just fits inside the main tube and can be pushed in and out to focus.
As expected the resulting images are subject to various aberrations, and have a dreamy quality to them.
