In Memoriam: ^Tom
Window of Opportunity
As a marker for Tony I'm going to tag this page 'convivial camera', then as markers for myself I'll add 'camera assisted conversations', 'social medium', 'open notebook', and 'reading buildings'.
Let's unpack.
'Convivial camera' is shorthand for Tony's Photography and Convivial Learning project.
'Camera assisted conversations' is my own take (excuse the pun) on the subject. For me photography is a retirement hobby. I look at Tony's project with a practical eye to my own desire to continue to learn but at the same time to debrief from a long career in architecture and associated design trades.
'Social medium' is a nod towards Flickr, a singular (but inclusive and convivial) part of the 'social media'.
'Open notebook' is a reminder that my Flickr stream is an open notebook as well as a continuing (camera assisted) conversation.
Buildings have meanings, there are stories behind them. 'Reading buildings' (or at least trying to read them) is one of my hobbies. It has its genesis in my student days when a friend suddenly said "What are these buildings saying to me?".
The picture at the top of the page is a 'notebook shot'. I took it in part as a reminder of the lightness and airiness of the room behind it and in part because this building has caught my interest. Now that I look at this fragment framed in its borders I begin to pay attention to the detail of the window. I begin to wonder about the battlement. What were those Victorians thinking about? Why does a window have a battlement? What was the intellectual climate of the time?
