El Ferrocarril Central de Aragón se caracteriza por sus durísimas rampas que ascienden desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1218 m. de altura, uno de los puntos más altos de todas las líneas españolas. En tales condiciones era obligada la especialización de sus máquinas. Ésta es una de las más peculiares: una locomotora articulada “Mallet”, para el remolque de trenes pesados de mercancías. Se trata además del primer material rodante de origen suizo en España. Su articulación permite incrementar la potencia y el peso, posibilitando la inscripción en las curvas. Esta “Compound” -algo inusual para una locomotora de mercancías- dispone de un grupo delantero motor unido por medio de una articulación al grupo posterior. Circularon en las líneas de Valencia-Calatayud y Caminreal-Zaragoza y, desde su incorporación a RENFE y hasta su baja a finales de los sesenta, entre Valencia y Utiel y por el sur hasta Alicante.
Very hard ramps going from the sea level to inhospitable spots 1218 metres high characterize the Ferrocarril Central de Aragón, one of the highest railways in Spain. In such conditions the specialization of its machines was obliged. This is one of the most peculiar: an articulated locomotive “Mallet” for the pulling of heavy goods trains. It is the first rolling stock of Swiss origin in Spain. Its hinge allows increasing power and weight, making the negotiation of curveé'possible. This compound-kind locomotive -something unusual for a goods machine- has a front motor set with the axles and cylinders joined by means of a hinge to the rear motor set, with its own cylinders and axles. They were used on the Ferrocarril Central de Aragón lines: Valencia-Calatayud and, since its incorporation in RENFE until its retirement at the end of the 60’s, from Valencia to Utiel and to the south down to Alicante.
