Last step bell project Thomaskirche Leipzig: Placing of writing and decoration on the "false bell" in the foundry

To apply lettering and decoration to the "false bell", an adhesive (secret recipe!) must be applied to the separating layer of beef tallow (white). - In any case, it has to be provided with wonderfully fragrant resin and applied without chemicals / see picture 8). The wax moulds can then be placed on top of this. A good film to follow the bell production can be found here (he shows the foundry of these bells): www.ardmediathek.de/swr/video/handwerkskunst/handwerkskun...

The letterings of the bells were cut out of transparent wax plates over printed forms of the inscriptions (see picture 2). The printout serves as a transfer base and at the same time as a transport surface for the wax moulds. In order to adapt the forms even better to the bell body, the inscription was not produced with a 90° steep cutting edge, but a slightly flattened angle was chosen for cutting (see picture 3).

Today is casting day at the foundry Bachert. Usually a big ceremony. The parish comes to celebrate a service at the bell pit. At the moment this not possible. Only a television crew is watching.
