Schrift und Zier für vier neue Glocken

I am very happy about winning a competition. I will design lettering and decoration for four new bells of St. Thomas in Leipzig. I have expanded the selected bible texts from Bach motets and let them flow around the body of the bells, just like a stream (The name Bach also stands for a stream in German) or river, or even music.

Besides the given texts at the foot of the bells, small plant ornaments are scattered between the words. These ornaments are taken from the so-called "Himmelsgärtlein" (little garden of heaven) at the cross vault of the Thomaskirche.

I am also responsible for the realisation of the project, which is to be completed by autumn this year.

 

Ich freue mich sehr über den Gewinn eines Wettbewerbes. Ich werde Schrift und Zier für vier neue Glocken der Thomaskirche Leipzig übernehmen.

Ich habe die angebotenen Bibeltexte aus Bach-Motetten erweitert und lasse sie um den Körper der Glocken fließen, eben wie einen Bach oder Fluß, oder Musik.

Neben den vorgegebenen Texten am Fuß der Glocken, werden zwischen die Worte kleine Pflanzen-Ornamente gestreut. Diese Ornamente sind aus dem sogenannten »Himmelsgärtlein« an dem Kreuzgewölbe der Thomaskirche entnommen.

Alle Schrift und Zier übernehme ich auch in der Ausführung, die bis Herbst dieses Jahres umgesetzt sein soll.
