Trapped Butterfly
Olympus OM Zuiko 200mm f4 (1/40, f8, ISO 400, Extension Tubes-9mm,16mm,30mm)
On my way out the door this morning I noticed a butterfly fluttering around over a bush near our walkway. I took a glance and headed on to my truck. I glanced back and realized that the butterfly was fluttering around in the same place. A closer look revealed that it was trapped in a web that extended down from a tree limb. I went over and knocked the string of web down trying not to damage its silken wings. Once the butterfly was free, it fluttered around and landed on the bush next to my walkway. I immediately grabbed the camera and prepared my macro setup only to come to an abrupt stop as my lens fogged up after being exposed to the morning sauna. I thought this opportunity was lost. I just knew this butterfly would be gone in a matter of seconds, but it stayed. In fact, it stayed long enough for my lens to clear and long enough to grab my tripod after several failed hand held attempts. In the image, you can see a ball of web hanging off the end of its tattered wing. I would like to think the butterfly was hanging around to let me take its picture just to say thanks. The saying says that you should not mess with Mother Nature, but I could not resist.
