sundial bridge

This image is the result of a uniquely challenging and painfully enjoyed working the comp experience, only discovered by persevering through a few early hours on premises exclusively using a fisheye lens...

I'd been excited since planning the trip, expecting to find interesting comps at this bridge which seemed a perfect subject for the fisheye perspective. So it was a let down to find myself fully frustrated and uninspired for the first few hours on site... I found the abundance of angles, possibilities, and factors of composition overwhelming, especially considering I'd only had the fisheye lens for a couple weeks at that point.

Eventually some consolation comps were bagged that made me feel better, though knowing 'the shot' hadn't been acquired... 8am arrived when I needed to leave and meet up with my family for a long day on the road, so was about to pack up but finally began to see something.

Frustration turned to excitement while working backwards along the wall from underneath the bridge. Arriving down in this corner I realized the whole wall could possibly be fit in frame... Weehaw!

(Also did a selfie from this same corner, which seems to be a more interesting shot as seen by other viewers than myself)

I laid there on the ground with my head propped up in that corner for quite a while enjoying the view with a sense of connection to the amazing architect, as if he had specifically designed that corner to be discovered and enjoyed. (I also thought about what an incredible spot it would be for someone under the influence of psychedelics.)

The experience was one of the tops for me with photography, and mirrors life in general where the experiences and achievements we appreciate the most are often the most difficult as well.
