On a table for royalty. Soup Joumou.

Soup joumou, pumpkin soup, is the traditional soup served on January 1, New Years Day, in Haitian homes. January 1 is Haitian Independence Day and eating soup joumou together with friends is how the day is celebrated.

Kaboucha squash (or butternut substitute) is the base with a myriad of vegetables added. Some traditions add pastas, others do not.
