Full Moon - _TNY_4824

Here is a closeup on a golden moon moth (Actias sinensis), also known as the Chinese moon moth.

This is the only type of moon/luna moth I've come across so far and I've been thinking about what the moon part comes from, but a couple of days ago, I saw another species of Actias moth and noticed that the top two eye spots weren't round, but rather crescent shaped - very moon-looking.

I suppose I could think of the markings here as "full moon", maybe?

For a shot showing what the entire moth looks like, including the very long tails, have a look at this shot of its brother: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54771299199/
