Quad Mirrors, Pt. 2 - _TNY_3952S2

The beetle here was hanging out on a sand bank in the river at the Mjällådalen nature reserve. The species is called Bembidion litorale and lacks a vernacular English name, but in Swedish it is known as "brokig spegellöpare". "Brokig" means mottled and "spegel" means mirror which is a reference to the four smooth squares on it's back. "Löpare" means runner and is a reference to "jordlöpare" which is what ground beetles are called here.

This is a two exposure focus stack taken at 2.7:1 magnification (the beetle is just 5 mm / .2" long) and compiled into a single image using Zerene Stacker.

Part 1 shows the "mirrors" better and is a nine exposure stack at higher magnification here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54928198986/
