Collateral Damage in the Nursery, Pt. 2 - _TNY_6837
This tan beauty is a female nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis).
Here she is - quite fittingly - in the nursery web which she has spun for her offspring to hatch and spend their very first time in.
She stays in the web for a while after they have hatched to protect them against predators.
Also, if you look a little closer, just to the right of mama spider, you can see a small black weevil which has wandered into the web and gotten stuck! I didn't notice it when I took the shot, if I had done so, I would have closed in even further on it and maybe manage an ID, but that's too difficult from just this shot.
Part 1 is a little further away and also includes the large bunch of spiderllings here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51956730093/
