Scarlet and Black, Pt. 2 - _TNY_0460

The scarlet mormon (Papilio rumanzovia), also known as the Rumanzovia swallowtail, is a bit deceptive when it comes to sexing it. This one is a female which means the dorsal side of the wings are black and red like this, while the males' dorsal side is black with white on the hind wings - but the males' have markings on the ventral side which resembles the females dorsal side. Here is a male right next to this lady, showing how similar his ventral side is: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54590807550/

This was photographed hanging inder the chrysalis it just crawled out of and waiting for the wings to dry/harden at the Haga Ocean butterfly house in Solna, Sweden.
