No Blood - _TNY_3258

The common red soldier beetle (Rhagonycha fulva), as the couple seen here securing next years population on the side of a thistle at Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park, just south of Stockholm, Sweden, is a rather common species, which in England sometimes apparently has the quite misleading name "bloodsucker beetle". I'm assuming it is because of the very red colour because this species feed on aphids and pollen and there is no sucking of blood involved.
