It's like Four Different Species - _TNY_1910
Some butterflies have a dorsal and ventral side of the wings which resemble each other and on others it looks completely different. And some species instead have a sexual dimorphism, ie the male and the female look different.
For the orange-banded shoemaker (Catonephele orites), both variations happen so this is what the ventral side of the male look like - which isn't particularily "orange-banded". But when you see the other side (like here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54215051169/) it makes more sense.
And then you spot the female which look like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53462466647/ and this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52402078386/ and it's like four different species!
