Cleared for Takeoff - _TNY_1382

As I returned back home from the supermarket after doing some grocery shopping, I noticed a dark little spot on the white front door.

This turned out to be a bit of a rare visitor - a hieroglyphic ladybird (Coccinella hieroglyphica)!

This species has a diet which apparently includes leaf beetles andf not just the "regular" aphids which most ladybirds eat. After getting a couple of shots of it on the dooor, I managed to coax it to climb onto my index finger so I could move it over to this grape hyacinth (Muscari botryoides) where I got to take a couple of more photos of it before it decided to leave and climbed to the top and took off. This is right before it opened the elytra and unfloded the flight wings.

A shot taken just before when it was still walking around on the flower here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54546804287/

For a shot of it still on the door, have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/54535615976/
