Looking into this ox-eye daisy (leucanthemum vulgare) which was growing next to our garbage cans, I found a 14-spotted ladybird beetle (Propylea quatuordecimpunctata).
Several onther language's common names for this species reference it looking like a chess board (Swedish: schackbrädespiga, German, Schachbrett-Marienkäfer, Dutch: schaakbordlieveheersbeestje, Danish: skakbræt, Norwegian: sjakkbrettmarihøne), but I can't seem to locate a mention like that for English.
