Snake's Heads Scare the Birds - _TNY_0834P4

Mega-large photo of a mega-large moth. This is a four-shot panorama of an Lorquin's cobra moth (Attacus lorquinii) This is a closely related and very similar species to the more well-known atlas moth (Attacus atlas). If you compare it to this panorama shot of an atals moth, you'll see that A. atlas has to thin white markings above the top pair of white triangles which the one here lacks: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53252935677/

The name "cobra moth" of course stems from the way the tips of the wings mimic snake heads and is used to dissuade birds from attacking it when slleping during the day.

With this being maed up of four photos, the resulting image is 91.4 megapixel so there should be plenty of leaway for those who like to zoom in on details.
