Comma or C, Pt. 2 - _TNY_9285

When the purple Angelica (Angleica gigas) is in full bloom in my mother-in-law's garden and with inflorescences sometimes nearing 20 cm / 8", they are a huge draw on pollinating insects like bees, bumblebees, hoverflies and wasps.

Here however, it was a butterfly that came in for a refueling. This species with the curiously jagged edges on the wings is known as the comma butterfly (Polygonia c-album). Zoom in on the undeside of the wings and you can see the reason behind the name - a small white comma (or "c" if you're in Germany as they call it the C-falter instead).
