Blood on my Finger, Pt. 4 - _TNY_0826

Here is a happy little guy which I managed to get to land on my finger on a small bog in the Svartkällsskogen nature reserve in Botkyrka, Sweden.

I simply held my hand out and this male ruddy darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) thought it was a great perch and landed.

"Ruddy" is an old English word, meaning "reddish" but the scientific name "sanguineum" translates into "blood-red", which is picked up in the common names in Swedish, German, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch and others.

Part 1 is also of it on my hand - but much much closer here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52465475714/
