Good Naming Scheme, Pt. 2 - _TNY_8749

Many bug species (as well as other animals) are named because of the distinctive colour or feature which only the male or the female has. Like the black darter which is a dragonfly where the male is black while the female of yellow.

For this species however, the naming encompasses both sexes as this is a red-brown longhorn beetle (Stictoleptura rubra). The beautifully tomato-red colour tell us it is a female while the male has a brown paintjob like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/51900629825/
