Rare Clown - _TNY_0760

Here is a nice beetle I photographed back in 2021 and never got around to properly identifying until now.

Turns out this is a rather rare species of clown beetle known as Margarinotus purpurascens.

With it being so incredibly glossy, it was quite difficult to capture properly with the camera, but I got a couple of useable shots.

I haven't figured out where the "clown" part of the name comes from, but the red "glow" in the colouration of the elytra was sweet.

From what I've gathered, this species is endangered in Sweden, so I'm happy I got to see one.
