This Flower Makes all Bugs Pretty, Pt. 2 - _TNY_5283

The purple angelica (Angelica gigas) is a great plant. First of all, it looks great all by itself. And the huge inflorescence has this amazing purple colour.

Then they are impressively large - they can reach 140 cm (4.5') in height!

But also they are popular with the caterpillars of the common yellow swallowtail who munch away at the leaves - but since they are also large, the plant can take it.

On top of that, there are lots of bugs attracted to the inflorescence and with that colour, they make a great backdrop for any bug - like this Thricops semicinereus fly which perhaps isn't overly pretty on it's own, but here I think it works pretty well.
