Too High Mag, Pt. 2 - _TNY_7458

When shooting with the Canon MP-E65mm lens, you can set the magnification to between 1:1 and a whopping 5:1. This is done by rotating the big rubber ring on the barrel of the lens and you then focus by moving the camera closer or further away from the camera - there is no focus ring on it.

For this shot of a female sun fly

(Helophilus pendulus), also known as the footballer or the tiger hoverfly, I had the magnification set to 2.4:1 which was to much to be able to fit the entire fly in frame. Since I stabilised the flower with my left hand, I couldn't change it which is why we ended up with such a close shot both here and in pt. 1: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53797660328/
