All Green, No Ants, Pt. 3 - _TNY_6843 (In Explore 18/12 2024)
One of my favourite species at the Haga Ocean butterfly house is the green-banded peacock (Papilio palinurus), also known as the emerald swallowtail.
I found this particular specimen on the ground where he was being mobbed by a bunch of those pesky ants so I managed to get him to climb up on my finger and he let me get the ants of him (and crushed) before I placed him on this plant.
Do zoom in and you can see the tiny green scales covering him (or her, I suppose). The wing injuries were not an issue for flying as he took off after a while and flew just fine.
This is also a nice shot to observe how different the green on the wings look depending on the angle you see the wings. Compare this to in part 1 here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53649253354/
