New Season! Pt. 3 - _TNY_6804

Yay - here is the first outside bug shot of 2024 for me. Living in Stockholm, Sweden result in me having to wait quite a lot longer for bug season to begin but this one from March 31st means the season is up and running.

Me and my son was trying to fix a wobbly stone in a stair at my mom's summer house and when we lifted it up, we found this little guy sleeping underneath.

It is one of the smaller species, a ten-spotted ladybird (Adalia decempunctata) which measure in at about 4 mm (.16") so this shot was taken at quite high magnification - 3.7:1 to get some detail.

This species is quite variable and from what I understand, this pattern on the elytra isn't the most common one - but quite pretty, right? Bonus points for having beautiful blue eyes like that.

Unforunately, winter wasn't completely done just yet so since this, whe have had temps below freezing and quite a lot of snow so hopefully Mr. or Mrs. Ten-Spot here managed to finde some good shelter until spring makes a comeback.
