My mother-in-law's purple angelica (Angelica gigas) seem to attract a lot of old-world swallowtail butterflies (Papilio machaon) which lay their eggs on it which turn into small black larvae which in turn eventually become these large beautiful larvae (this is the fifth instar stage) which consume quite a lot of the large leaves of the Angelica.
