Baldy, Pt. 2 - _TNY_8551
Most bumblebees prefer to nest in the ground, but the tree bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum), also known as the new garden bumblebee, as the same suggests, often nest in trees and also in holes in house walls and similar.
Both the German (Baumhummel) and Dutch (boomhommel) translate into tree bumblebee, but the Swedish name (hushumla) instead means "house bumblebee".
This particular one has crawled into the nest so many times that quite a lot of the hairs on the top of the thorax have worn off leaving a bald spot - something that isn't uncommon at all.
